If you've ever tried street tteokbokki in Korea, you've probably come across its best companion: the deep-fried seaweed noodle rolls, also known as Gim Mari (김말이) . Crispy on the outside, savory and juicy on the inside... a melt-in-your-mouth delight!
Today we're showing you how to make them at home using ingredients you can find at OKIDOKI Asian Market. This recipe was shared with us by @kims_korean_flavor_ , a true expert in authentic Korean flavors. Thank you for inspiring us with so much flavor!
🛒 Ingredients (for 2-3 people)
-
250g sweet potato noodles (dangmyeon)
-
1 tablespoon of sugar
-
2 tablespoons of soy sauce – we recommend the Korean Sempio
-
1 tablespoon sesame oil – the perfect aromatic touch
-
Ground black pepper to taste
-
Korean gimbap seaweed (gim) – not to be confused with Japanese nori seaweed
-
Rice paper – for that perfect crispy exterior
-
Oil for frying
👩🍳 Step-by-step preparation
-
Cook the dangmyeon noodles according to the package instructions. Then rinse them with cold water and drain well.
-
In a bowl, mix them with sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Make sure the noodles are well coated.
-
Soak the rice paper in warm water until it is soft and manageable.
-
Place a piece of gim seaweed on the paper, followed by a little of the noodle filling. Roll it carefully , making sure it's compact.
-
In a pan with hot oil, fry the rolls until golden brown and crispy. Avoid letting them touch each other to prevent them from sticking.
-
Ready! Serve with your favorite sauce: a mix of soy sauce, vinegar, and Korean chili flakes, or better yet… dip them directly into a bowl of tteokbokki.
💡 OKIDOKI Tip: If you want the flavor to be even more intense, add some chopped garlic or chives to the noodles before rolling them.
